We are excited to receive a report from Myanmar that 300 traffickers were arrested in 2014. This is great news, but the need for prevention remains significant.
According to Mr. Win Naing Tun, Chief of the anti-trafficking police, ‘The victims are more than 3000 and most of them are girl children.’ Many of the victims are from Shan and Kachin states, areas of focus for our prevention teams. 60% of the victims are forced into marriage and sent to China. Food crisis and other hardship conditions increase the risk so many families face. Traffickers lure victims with promises of jobs and good salaries.
Our coordinators continue to work in these at risk regions of Myanmar. Please continue to support them as they travel long distances and face hardship to bring awareness and help families protect their children.
