Our coordinators are always hard at work in Myanmar… this time in a remote area of Shan State where many daughters have left for China. The villagers complain that illegal agents come to their homes and lure their girls away for work, but the girls never return and the families do not hear from them.
At this meeting, it is decided that girls should not leave with illegal agents even if promises are made of good jobs. Moreover, if these agents are found in the area, they will be reported to the police immediately.
It is not easy to provide for a family in Myanmar so the temptation of a good job is appealing. Thanks to our coordinators, we are able to teach about prevention, protect girls from exploitation, and help find solutions for families needing to increase their income.
