"I love it here"

Dear Friend,

Our Kern County Daughter Project Group Home and Shelter is up and running. So many of you have been a part of this effort from day one while others are newer to the Daughter Project. We thought you all would like to hear what the girls have to say:

"I love it here and want to be able to stay" and "I’ve never met people this nice" and "It feels like we are one big family here"!

We strive to provide the very best for these daughters... they are as precious to God as our own.

Please continue to give… one time and monthly gifts are all appreciated and your gift will help girls right here at home.

Thank you for making this possible,
Your Global Family Team

'Best of Bakersfield' celebrates Global Family's 10 year anniversary

Dear Friend,

Wow, it was an evening to remember… our 10  year anniversary celebration brought together the very best of Bakersfield in every way. It was a beautiful tribute to what this community has done here locally and around the world to protect and restore young victims of trafficking and abuse. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Dignity Health Mercy & Memorial Hospitals and Varner Bros., PLCs Plus, Advanced Distribution, Valley Republic, Motor City Lexus, The Mark, Adventist Health Bakersfield, LeBeau-Thelen, BMW, and Ira & Carole Cohen/UBS Financial. Thank you, Wonderful Aviation, for once again opening up your hangar to host our event; you and your team go above and beyond to make sure we have everything we need to pull off this fantastic gala. The ICL and PacWest Sound teams went all out this year… WOW! AND special thanks to Mossman's, Daou Winery, Imbibe and Jeramy Brown from The Mark, Lady DJ, ABC 23 and Bakersfield Magazine for your generous donations.

And if you didn’t get that fabulous auction item you were bidding on or if you weren’t able to attend… you can still be a part of our challenge. I know many of you were touched by the words from a local survivor. These funds will remain right here in our community to care for our girls. All amounts are welcome!

You may continue to access your mobile bidding link to donate or give directly on myglobalfamily.org.

Exciting Update from Nepal!

Dear Friend,

Sharmila (left) and Bishnu (right) are working towards their BA in Social Work at AIIMS College in Lalitpur, Nepal. We are excited to have them study our club based approach around the prevention of child trafficking and abuse. These two young ladies are passionate about protecting vulnerable girls and women and ‘speaking out’ on their behalf.

We value being able to share our model of prevention and expect to hear great things about what Sharmila and Bishnu will accomplish in the future!

Daughter Project ‘Clubs de Niñas in El Salvador

Dear Friend,

Earlier this year, we launched the Daughter Project for the first time in Central America. We are happy to report that 60 girls attend our clubs on a regular basis… learning about inner beauty and building communities of support for other girls and women from the community. And they are almost finished translating all four books of the girls’ club curriculum into Spanish

We are excited to see how our El Salvador team have made protecting young Salvadoran girls a reality in such a short time… we expect to see much more.

Protecting daughters from exploitation and abuse is a priority of the Daughter Project. Please make it a priority of yours and give today. Your giving changes outcomes.

Award Worthy!!!

Dear Friend,

If you are ready for an inspiring story… we have one for you. Our shelter team have applied for the 2017 Bravery Award on behalf of this very special daughter. Priti is 14 years old and currently being cared for in our Sangam Vihar shelter in Delhi, India. This testimonial contains serious content, actual names and locations have been changed to protect Priti’s identity.

Whether she wins the award or not, Priti is a hero to us!!"I am

Priti and very fortunate to be alive today to tell my story as a person who survived rape and an attempt to murder. It was the darkest day of life which I would rather forget and never remember it any more. One day, I was returning home as I had been sent to purchase milk. Close by there were five men standing near a parked car. Suddenly, one of them pressed a handkerchief on my nose and I fell unconscious. When I came to my conscious I realized I was kidnapped and locked in a dark room.  My hands, mouth and legs were tied with a rope.  I could not shout for any help. When I open my eyes I saw three dead bodies lying under the bed.  The room had a very bad stinking odor of decomposed dead bodies.

I was held in this room for 13 days and the three men mercilessly raped me multiple times a day sometimes even three times in a day. Whenever I cried and begged for mercy I was beaten and kicked. I do not know how I was survived in dark, smelly and tormentful place. I experienced extreme fear and pain. I was so tired but could not sleep in the nights.

After almost 2 weeks, they took me in their car to a jungle and raped me again. Later I was asked to get down.  As soon as I got down from the car they fired gun shots twice on my chest.  Then they threw me in a pit and left me thinking I was dead. I was profusely bleeding and crying with intolerable pain.  Somehow I gained my strength to pull out one of the bullet which was on my chest and became unconscious.  Early morning I again regained my consciousness and cried for help, a villager heard my voice and informed police.

Local police helped and was initially given emergency medical treatment for 3 hours in the Hospital. After that, I was moved to another hospital and kept there for almost a month. Soon after my medical treatment I was placed in the Global Family shelter home.

Initially in the shelter home, I was suffering with depression, impulsiveness and post traumatic disorders.  I am very thankful to all the medical doctors, CWC bench and especially to Global Family staff and Counselor for their loving efforts which helped me to overcome my traumatic ordeal.

I have just recently enrolled myself in open schooling and will soon take examination for 10th standard.”

This young girl is a model of strength and perseverance… what a beautiful example of overcoming extreme adversity. Much thanks to our team in Delhi for taking such good care of Priti and all the daughters who come into their care.

Please support the Daughter Project… your giving changes the outcome for girls like Priti.

Thank you,
Your Global Family Team

Daughter Project Training

Daughter Project Training

Dear Friend,

Recently, our coordinators in Chin State, Myanmar, heard of three girls who had been abandoned by their parents and no longer attending school. The girls are just 7, 9, and 13 years old. The local Daughter Project Club decided to investigate. They suspected the girls were in trouble, and they were right. They had been left with individuals who threatened the girls and forced them to work so they could not attend school with their friends.

Happily, the club members found a family who took the girls into their own home and committed to caring for the girls as their own children. The girls are doing well, they are happy and now regularly attending school!

Reports like these are the result of hard work and effective training. Our coordinators and club members need consistent training and support to be able to identify, research and restore children like these three daughters.

Please help us provide more support for our team. Your direct
giving = results. Learn how you can receive a thank you note or a gift directly from our Myanmar team.

Thank You,
Your Global Family Team

Act of Kindness!

Act of Kindness!

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, I was at Sears buying some of the remaining items we need for the Kern County Daughter Project Shelter. Firstly, the people at Sears gave me a discount when they heard what it was for. Thank you! Then, the couple behind me in line asked what all the items were for. When I told them we are opening a shelter for young girls who have been trafficked and abused, the man began to tear up and the woman handed me her credit card saying she wanted to pay $100 of the $417 bill. This couple, complete strangers, immediately wanted to help when they heard about the injustices these girls experience and how we will be caring for them. Wow.

I am asking all of you to do the same and help with the $317 remainder. You can give right now at http://www.daughterproject.org/give-1#give-2 and choose the local shelter or mail a check to:

Global Family

Thank you!

Tulare County Sheriff's Office takes down human trafficking ring

Dear Friends,

A few days ago, Sheriff’s deputies in Tulare County declared that they’d “taken down a human trafficking ring” that included 21 underage girls and 2 boys. The victims were lured through social media by someone posing to be a young attractive woman promising an “exciting life”. Three men who “operated the ring” along with others who paid to have sex with the minors have been arrested.

Young girls rescued from trafficking and abuse need a safe place to stay where they will receive the care and support they deserve. Our Kern County Daughter Project shelter is just that; as soon as our license is approved, our doors will be open to girls such as these. Please contact us to take a tour or make a donation today to support this shelter at daughterproject.org. We need your help!

30 children who need new backpacks and uniforms this year

Dear Friends,

It is back to school time in North America. As you evaluate the sales on pencils, paper, backpacks and clothes… consider donating $35 to supply a new backpack and uniform for a child in Nepal! Every child feels special when they have new essentials for school, and you can make this a reality for a child from an impoverished neighborhood. Our after school program helps families keep their children in school by providing supplies and offering hot meals, tuition, and programs daily.

We have 30 children who need new backpacks and uniforms this year. Please give directly today. Give to several students and receive a picture and thank you note from the children!

Thank you for giving directly,

Your Global Family Team

Daughter's Returned Safely

Daughter's Returned Safely

Dear Friends,

Just outside of Myanmar’s capital city, five young girls studying in 9th class were approached by a woman who promised them jobs worth $500 USD per month… all they needed to do was come for an interview. Instead of going home after school, the girls boarded a bus to meet the woman who had made them this promise, but the girls soon learned that the woman did not have good intentions.
In the meantime, the parents joined together and notified the police of the girls’ disappearance. Within hours, the police located the girls and returned them home safely.

Our coordinator who had recently conducted an awareness campaign in their neighborhood received a phone call from the grateful parents: “How great is the result of doing human awareness education to our community”, they happily declared.

These daughters were returned home safely within 72 hours. Abuse and exploitation were averted due to the quick action by the parents and authorities. We call that success!

Thank you for being a part of prevention,

Your Global Family Team
